Pool Registration

The Building Amendment (Swimming Pool and Spa) Regulations 2019 came into effect on 1 December 2019. The Regulations provide for mandatory registration and inspection of all pools and spas in Victoria. All pools and spas must be registered with the local Council by 1 November 2020. The Council will determine which pool safety standard applies to the pool based on the date of its construction. The pool must be inspected every four years by a licensed pool safety inspector. The inspector will determine if the requisite pool safety standards are being followed. If the pool is not compliant with the pool safety standards, the owner will be required to bring the pool into compliance. If the owner does not, the Council can issue penalties or commence prosecution. If you own a property with a pool or spa, you should contact your local Council to determine their requirements for registration.
